Is Facebook Advocacy Alive & Well?

Writer: Abigail KnudsonAbigail Knudson

I never really re-share anything on Facebook anymore. With the growth of advocacy towards various social media platforms, Facebook seems to have disappeared from the top ranked sites for news, let alone a platform for Advocacy. But today, I actually posted AND wrote something. Don't worry it's also on Twitter. Besides my father, no one actually liked the post. But there are definitely alternative factors that contribute to the lack of Facebook interaction: time of day, content, interest? Regardless, the importance is that we find a suitable platform to advocate for such vital change in the justice system, with dutiful and authorities that are dedicated to exposing the truth. Maybe that platform is now through the accumulation of growth through podcasts or TikToks. It seems the time for "viral" Facebook posts are mostly obsolete. Now let's get to the real story, the one that you didn't know you NEEDED to hear today.

Crime Junkie Podcast revealed their newest podcast regarding the tragic and confounding death of Kaysera Stops Pretty Places in 2019 in Buckhorn County, Montana. A young, indigenous woman with no justice, but moreover, treated with no respect or dignity by the authorities. I signed the petition at Change.org and I encourage you to either listen to the podcast, read her story, or both.

I like to consider myself an educated young woman, yet it consistently shocks me the unwillingness and utter disgrace of the authorities to act righteously. As a current online graduate student (3 more weeks to go woot woot!), I am diverging myself in feminist discourse as part of a Working Women in America course. Each day, I am reminded of the inequity and injustice in American society towards women of all races, ethnicities, socio-economic status, and even mental health and physical traits.

So, for Kaysera and all indigenous women who have yet to receive justice, you can help rectify the injustices perpetrated against them. Sign the Petition, Read their Stories, or even look at the staggering statistics regarding Crimes against Indigenous Women - so that we can collectively work together towards a more just, and equitable world.
